Altera – Cable-Laying Vessel Sea Trial
The sea trial of the Altera,
a 100 by 29-metre
Cable Lay Vessel (CLV) built by
Neptune
for N-Sea Group, was carried out from Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The sea trial focused on testing the vessel’s performance, manoeuvrability, propulsion and onboard systems prior to entering operational service. With its shallow-draft design, DP2 capabilities and dedicated cable-laying equipment, the Altera is designed for offshore cable installation and repair operations in both shallow and deeper waters.
The vessel features a fully diesel-electric propulsion system with six thrusters and a total installed thruster power of 7,900 kW. The Altera is equipped with a 4,500-tonne cable carousel, a 15-tonne cable tensioner and a 25-tonne offshore knuckle boom crane. The vessel can accommodate up to 99 people.
