Major Project Ahead – Training for Rijkswaterstaat (RWS)
One of my biggest projects so far is now underway: training crews from the Dutch Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) — or in English, the Department of Waterways and Public Works.
This long-term project will span 2 to 3 years and focuses on the safe and effective operation of three newly acquired RWS vessels, the MPV-30 series, all equipped with azimuth thrusters. While these vessels represent a big step forward in capability, the crews had limited experience operating them.
Before starting this training program, we visited the “RWS Merwestroom” to assess the specific needs and challenges on board. Based on those insights, and in close cooperation with Damen, we developed a comprehensive training plan.
